This glazed faience jar is a piece of pottery from Zivije located in the region adjoining Kurdistan in the North-Eastern Iran and Azerbaijan. The city of Zivije is famous for a treasure trove dated to the 8th – 7th century B.C. and containing gold and silver vessels, jewelry, pieces of bronze armor, harness, parts of furniture, ivory plaques and glazed pottery bearing Assyrian, Urartian, Scythian and Luristan influences. Faience vessels from Ziviye are usually in the form of jars and round or rectangular containers sometimes with covers, decorated with white, yellow, orange and blue petals and zigzag motives on a different tone blue glaze background.
